Ebenezer Baptist Church
101 Jackson St NE, Atlanta, GA 30312
Held at Ebenezer Church as part of AWAREFEST Week, this summit centers the real financial, policy, and structural challenges facing HBCUs today and explores what it will take to ensure long-term stability, access, and opportunity for Black students in an increasingly uncertain political and economic environment.
From Student Loan Debt to Institutional Competitiveness: Reimagining the Future of Black Higher Education
Moderated by Roland Martin, news commentator and host of Roland Martin Unfiltered, this solutions-oriented discussion examines the growing burden of student loan debt on Black families, the fragile financial footing of many HBCUs, and how redesigned education financing, policy alignment, and coordinated investment can strengthen institutions and expand opportunity for future generations.
The discussion explores how historical inequities and policy decisions have positioned borrowing as the default pathway to education, limiting long-term wealth creation. Panelists then examine solutions, including redesigned education financing models that align repayment with income, remove co-signer barriers, and protect students during periods of low earnings.
The session concludes with a call to action for funders, policymakers, and partners to move from intention to aligned advocacy and long-term investment.
Event is free and open to the public with registration.
