About Our Mission

Student Freedom Initiative

Founded in 2020, Student Freedom Initiative (SFI) was created to address the growing student loan debt crisis and the inequities it perpetuates—particularly for students from communities that have long lacked access to critical resources and opportunities. With student loan debt exceeding $1.8 trillion nationwide, SFI offers a new pathway that prioritizes student outcomes, financial well-being, and long-term economic mobility.

SFI empowers students with the knowledge, community, and resources to thrive during and after college. HBCU AWAREFEST—the first national benefit concert illuminating the student loan debt crisis at HBCUs to the public—is one of the organization's newest initiatives. Over a week-long program, SFI will raise funds and awareness to support affordable college financing and long-term wealth-building efforts.
